No Filter Needed For The VERY Real Pink Lake"

Yes, there is such thing as a pink lake, but is it really a pink lake? Thanks to Koox Adventure tours for showing us the 10th wonder of the world called Los Coloradas in the Yucatan!

I've always seen images of the "pink lakes" on social media but I thought the color was from a filter or photoshopped. Thanks to Koox Adventure Tours in Tulum Mexico, we were able to finally learn more about Los Coloaradas (pink lakes) and see it for ourselves. I was so excited I had to buy a pink bathinsuit to match! I even got Jb pink board shorts but they were wayyyy too short he would've scared the locals away.

Koox Adventures is located in a couple of different locations in Tulum. They are also working on opening a location in Cancun. They have tons of different fun tours from scuba diving, swimming with the sharks/crocodiles, off roading in the jungle or traveling by boat to the Maya Ruins.

We woke up early to take a taxi from our hotel located in the hotel zone of Tulum to the downtown Koox location which is about a 10 min taxi ride.

At 8am in downtown, there are a couple of breakfast spots to grab a homemade breakfast burrito to go for a great price. You can walk there from Koox Adventure. We started our 8-12hr adventure around 9am. It took us about 2.5 hrs to drive to our destination since we had to head back up north towards Cancun. Victor, our tour guide and local, was FULL of information on each town we were going through. We went through about three towns.

We also stopped at Ek' Balam on the way which is a Yucatec-Maya archaeological site. But that is for another blog post.

Th past year, the lakes have gained so much popularity due to social media. There is now a fee to walk through the lakes and a man has to walk with you to make sure you do not contaminate the water. The water is actually salt water. Salt that they use for your food, drinks and more. You are NOT allowed to go in the water. For those who do, you are contaminating the salt that the whole Yucatan uses for your margaritas! Please do not go in the water just for an instagram picture. It also takes a lot of hard work and time to get the perfect salt.

There were multiple pink lake sightings. It was beautiful! There were even flamingos everywhere. Due to the time of the year, there wasn't as many flamingos as usual.

The drive was definitely worth it for the view! I highly recommend touring with Koox Adventures on this new tour! We felt safe, learned so much about the Yucatan and had the best time with Victor! (He even took our photos for us!)

Thank you Koox Adventures & your amazing team! We can not wait to come back and try every other adventure. (except swimming the crocodiles)
